The most memerable Doctor Who companions

It is interesting how we remember some Doctor Who companions and others are easily forgotten. I suspect few of the non-fan general public remember Mel or Nyssa wheras everyone still recalled Sarah Jane Smith even before her new spin-off series.

I'd say the main companions that will stay in the public mind are Susan, Jamie, Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana II, Rose Tyler & Ben Chatham.

Morrissey: "Years of Refusal"

I'm rather disappointed with the new Morrissey album. Maybe it'll grow on me. I was reading the lyrics on the train and I thought they were some of his best for years. Indeed I was anticipating loving the album. Then I got home and played it. The problem is that too often an excellent lyric is ruined by humdrum music and samy arrangements.

Jade Goody

I think that all of the critics of Jade Goody should take a long hard look at themselves. She is making as much money as she can in order to leave it to her two children so that they can have a decent education and the start in life that Jade herself never had. I'd call this admirable. She clearly knows exactly what she is doing and this is giving her something to focus on. I suspect that most of the people who are turning their noses up at her selling her interviews etc are motivated by some form of jealousy and are dressing this up in a cloak of concern for good taste and other such nonsense. The so-called racism controversy was always overblown and there is much to admire about Jade.

Matt Smith in "Moses Jones"

I saw this last night and was not impressed with Matt. Admittedly the script and production values were awful and any actor would have struggled to come across in it. However Matt appeared wooden, deadpan and rather lost.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......

The snow was great while it lasted. Here's hoping for some more. Apparently some parents groups have been complaining about school closures. How sad. I'm sure these people only represent a tiny minority of parents and must be very miserable, dull and jaded people. They need to get a life and realise whats really important, in other words take some time off, go out and have some fun with their kids in the snow & enjoy some quality family time.

The perfect DVD for a snowbound day......

Today I watched 'Robot'. Perfect for a day off work.

Peter Hitchens on the gay rights lobby

After Richard Littlejohn, the Mail has wheeled out Peter 'absolutely bonkers' Hitchens. I quote:

"If I never again had to read or write a word about homosexuals, I would be very happy. I really don't want to know what other people do in their bedrooms. But these days they really, really want us all to know. And, more important, they insist that we approve.
No longer are we allowed to keep our thoughts to ourselves, while being polite and kind.We are forced to say that we think homosexuality is a good thing, that homosexual couples are equal in all ways to heterosexual married couples.
Most emphatically, we are compelled to agree that homosexual couples are just as good at bringing up children as the children's own grandparents. Better, in fact.
Many people who believe nothing of the kind now know that their careers in politics, the media, the Armed Services, the police or schools will be ruined if they ever let their true opinions show. I am sure that many of them regularly lie about their views, to avoid such trouble. We cringe to the new Thought Police, like the subjects of some insane, sex-obsessed Stalinist state, compelled to wave our little rainbow flags as the 'Gay Pride' parade passes by.
And that's another thing. We can't even call homosexuals 'homosexuals' any more. This neutral word is not considered enthusiastic enough. We have to say 'gay'. Which is exactly why I don't, apart from in inverted commas. You think I exaggerate the power and fury of these forces? The totalitarian rage on this subject is quite astonishing."

Try imagining this rant being about blacks or asians and you quickly see the limits of the 'totalitarian' gay rights grip. It would not only have never been printed but Hitchens would be sacked.

Peter always seems a very uptight and highly strung man. Maybe he needs a few drinks & a night of passion with a curvy blonde.
