Bonfire Night!

I love Bonfire Night. What a shame so many local displays are falling foul of wet , PC 'health & safety' laws. A bit of common sense is all that is needed.

Oh maybe an alien fire monster which slaughters all the locals while our hero, Ben Chatham, spends the night in safety, shagging emotionally vulnerable women into submission...

So much for "incisive commentary".

Precisely what laws are you whining about, and why?

Personally, I'm fed up to the back teeth with fireworks, as people have been letting them off round my way for the last two weeks. Saturday was the worst - they were still going off past 2am! And my cat is bloody terrified!

I think fireworks should be banned outside of organised displays.

Oh my God, health and safety laws! Oh my God... the government only want to make sure people don't blow themselves with! Of course, with your evident bloodlust...

I think it's less to do with "Wet Health and Safety" rules and more to do with local councils having to cover themselves if some idiot who doesn't realise that standing too close to a firework might hurt them gets hurt and sues them.

People are stupid, anyone in the service industry could tell you that, but they are also very litigious. They don't get the idea of barriers being there to protect them, but they sure can phone Claims Direct easily enough, claiming that the wall of metal barriers was insufficient to protect the public from getting in harms way.

Health and Safety are used more as an excuse by some councils too, who can't be bothered to pay for adequate protection, much as "Political correctness" is used to explain why expensive Christmas festivities are being cancelled.

Why do I visualize these "stupid people" as Ben Chatham and a bottle of absinthe screaming, "WHY DOES NO ONE LOVE ME?" as they stagger into the flames?
